Meeting under the rain
Ogni mattina Emma passa davanti a una piccola libreria prima di andare al lavoro. Non entra quasi mai, ma si ferma sempre a guardare i libri esposti nella vetrina.
Every morning Emma walks past a small bookshop before going to work. She almost never goes inside, but she always stops to look at the books displayed in the window.
Un lunedì mattina inizia a piovere all'improvviso. Emma corre verso l'ingresso della libreria per ripararsi e, nello stesso momento, un ragazzo arriva correndo con un ombrello completamente bagnato.
One Monday morning it suddenly starts raining. Emma runs to the entrance of the bookshop to take shelter, and at the same moment a young man arrives running with a completely soaked umbrella.
I due si guardano e sorridono. «Sembra che abbiamo avuto la stessa idea», dice il ragazzo ridendo.
They look at each other and smile. "It looks like we had the same idea," the young man says with a laugh.
Emma ride. «Direi di sì. Almeno qui non ci bagniamo.»
Emma laughs. "I'd say so. At least we won't get wet here."
Il ragazzo si chiama Matteo. Sta cercando un romanzo da regalare a sua sorella, ma non sa quale scegliere. Emma ama leggere e gli consiglia uno dei suoi libri preferiti.

On Saturday they meet at the same café near the bookshop. They talk for hours again and discover they have many interests in common.

From that day on, Emma still walks past the bookshop every morning. Now, however, she doesn't just look at the books: she always hopes to see Matteo too.
